If you’re facility is covered by a storm water general permit (find out more about storm water permitting applicability), then you are required to develop and implement a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), or an equivalent plan like a Best Management Practices (BMP) Plan. Most states require an annual evaluation to be completed to access the effectiveness and accuracy of the SWPPP. Reviewing and updating of the SWPPP is essential to ensure all potential sources of storm water contamination are identified and to minimize potential storm water pollution.
If you have coverage under an Industrial Storm Water General Permit, you are likely required to complete an Annual SWPPP Evaluation or collect storm water samples. The evaluation likely includes a summary of inspection findings documented throughout the year and questions regarding the accuracy of facility information listed in the SWPPP (i.e., SWPP Team, exposed materials, etc.). To accurately complete an Annual SWPPP Evaluation, a site inspection and SWPPP review and update should be conducted.
The Annual SWPPP Evaluation is normally due by December 31st of each year, but may vary from state to state, and is typically required to be completed on specified forms (e.g., MDEQ form).
